W12 class question

Technology and our lives: past, present and the future

Q1: Do you think technological capabilities determine a country's power and influence? Is it true to the past? What about the future?

A1: I think military power is still important in today's world, but it is no longer the only source of influence. Countries now mainly expand their global influence through diplomatic means, cultural exports, and development assistance.

Q2: Do you think that different communication mediums (technologies) evoke different responses? Is seeing something different from hearing or reading about it? Are you more likely to care about something if you see it compared to just reading about it?

A2: I think different communication ideas do elicit different responses. However, visual information is usually more likely to arouse attention and emotional responses than textual information. For example, social media also relies more on visual content to attract users and stimulate interaction and participation.

Q3: Extra blog idea: look at the photos at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List of phot ographs considered the most important Related to the previous question " which three photos from that list you think are most impactful for you and why?

A3:
1. "The Scourged Back"(1863) this photo is intuitive and shockingly revealing the atrocities of slavery. The whip marks on the back of the Gordon are the brutal testimony of the slave owner. This visual impact is stronger than any text description, which directly makes the audience feel the horror of slavery.

2. "Storyville Portrait "(1912) Shooting these women with a warm and respectful attitude showed their personality and humanity, not just their profession. This humane perspective deeply moved me. Teaching me to surpass the surface label when looking at others, and see the story and uniqueness behind everyone.

3."Beckoning West "(1869) Captured the image of the railway and workers in construction, and these images became valuable historical data. This makes me realize that photography is not only a medium for art expression, but also an important means to record and preserve history.
