Week4——LIU RUOHAN

1.Looking at Goffman's Self-Introduction in Everyday Life, I think I was impressed by the following points. The differences between the foreground and background mentioned by Goffman are very wide, and because of this, the application of this theory to sociology is also very flexible.Although the concept of the front and backstage is separate, there are cases where the backstage is foreseen and the backstage is executed.Because the word role-playing is usually accompanied by people's emotional color, it is considered an insincere expression. When people interact in a role-playing way in their daily lives, some people misunderstand this concept. The examples presented in the book are also very interesting, such as mental illness, which Goffman describes as a mask in which each performer has their own expression of solitude. The description of this book is an analysis of social writing from a theatrical point of view that can facilitate the reader's self-replacementGoffman's concept of "self" is based on the interaction between the individual and the stage environment in which we perform while watching others perform.Playing different roles in different scenarios, everyone worked very hard to follow the script, using their own acting skills to express their state.

2.At the end of the project, our theme was to watch passers-by react by performing "pretending something fell from the sky."From our observations, we find that people's foreground performances are often unexpected expressions or movements, such as expressions of surprise, shouting, and rapid avoidance.People's backstage reaction is that there are many different ways to perform when they're alone or with friends. In that moment, they may consider the current situation and how to respond.Impression management: In this emergency situation, they are very concerned about their image, and some people will be indifferent to ensuring that they are calm in the eyes of others.
