W9.1 April 29 (Mon) extra credit

In White's book "Social Life in Small Urban Spaces", I read Chapter 8 of Interior Space. After reading White's "Social Life in Small Urban Spaces", I found this book to be really interesting and at the same time quite in-depth. This book is like an enthusiastic tour guide, taking me through every corner of the city, allowing me to re-understand those small spaces that I might normally ignore.

The author White uses very plain and vivid language to describe the daily life scenes he observed in streets, parks, cafes and other places. He tells how people meet, communicate and spend their time in these places. Through these descriptions, I seemed to be there, feeling the breath of life and human touch in those small spaces.

Although the book touches on some sociological theory, White explains it in a very accessible way. I think as long as you read patiently and think carefully, you can understand his point of view.

I think this book is a very good reference book for social science students in the 2020s. It made me realize that the city is not just a place to work and live, but also a social space full of humanity and vitality. This book also inspired me to observe and think about the city I live in, and to discover the beauty that may have been overlooked.
