W6.1 April 8 (Mon)《The Sting》

Impression management: The characters in the film, especially the protagonists, will try their best to show the side they want others to see during their interactions, that is, their "front stage" image. For example, they pretend to be a wealthy person, a celebrity, or a professional scammer to gain the target's trust.

Social scripts: People's social interactions are likened to scripted performances. In "Scam", scammers work together to formulate and execute a complex fraud plan. Everyone plays their respective roles and acts according to a pre-arranged script.

Deception in social interactions: Goffman's theory also focuses on how people hide their true selves in social interactions and how they use deception to achieve their goals. In movies, con artists use elaborate deceptions and performances to trick other characters into believing their own lies.

Role-playing: Goffman believes that people will continue to play various roles in social interactions to adapt to different social environments. In "Scam", scammers not only have to play various roles in the fraud scheme, but also manage their multiple identities in daily life to avoid being exposed.
