Goffman's roles and election

There's a parliamentary election happening in South Korea this April. So, I'd like to discuss Goffman's concept of roles by using this event as an example. I recently added an article about Byun Hee-jae to Wikipedia. He's a typical example of a "spotter" in Goffman's theory. With a political commentary career spanning almost 24 years, he possesses a deep understanding of politics. However, he doesn't run for elections himself so he is audience. Despite not being a candidate, he analyzes the political situation on popular YouTube channels to the audience. In an election regular campaigners appear during performances (rallies, events). However, their roles are quite obvious to the audience, so they are non person. Advertising experts who help candidates win, would be considered ss. They contribute significantly but remain unseen in the performance. Finally, in our university example perfectly illustrates the "go-between" role. There is go betwe...

A short story depends on Goffman's roles: spotter, non-person, sevice specialist, go-between and colleague

Let me explain more why they are supporters, non-persons, or service specialists, which you pointed out in the presentation in class. A general meeting for the opening of a university sports club was held. There are seniors who teach new students about club activities at this opening general meeting. These seniors are supporters because they tell them what they know about club activities they have experienced. And they ordered pizza to eat during the opening meeting, and the pizza was delivered just in time. Here, the pizza delivery man is a non-person because it has nothing to do with the club's opening general meeting. In addition, students of the physical education college who will lead practical activities in this sports club are also enjoying the opening general meeting. Here, physical education students are service specialists in that they teach professional sports knowledge in club activities.

Classroom Questions March.22

Questions: Invent a short story which features examples of Goffman's roles: spotter, non-person, service specialist, go-between and collegue. You can use Al and talk to friends, but if your example is too similar to another one heard, you will get no points. Answer: In a crew, there is an observant director who captures every detail. He is a good Spotter. One day a new guest actor came to the crew, but she was a newcomer and had no experience, so she was very scared at first. She is a non-person. The heroine discovered the newcomer first and took her to the lounge to learn about the script. The heroine is a Service Specialist. The screenwriter appeared at this time, introduced the crew to the newcomer, and greeted everyone. The newcomer begins to relax and the atmosphere becomes pleasant. The screenwriter is the Go-between. Later, the relationship between the newcomer and the heroine became more and more harmonious. They ate together and rehearse together. The heroine becomes...

A short story depends on Goffman's roles: spotter, non-person, sevice specialist, go-between and colleague

In the heart of a bustling city lay an enchanting masquerade ball, where masks concealed not only faces but also the intricate roles each attendee played in the dance of society. Amidst the swirling elegance of the ballroom, Sarah, the spotter, moved gracefully, her keen eyes catching glimpses of hidden dramas behind the façade of smiles and laughter. She observed the whispers exchanged between masked strangers and the subtle gestures that spoke volumes, weaving tales of intrigue and mystery. Among the guests, there existed the non-person, a figure draped in anonymity, gliding through the crowd with an air of enigma. Their presence was felt yet unseen, a silent observer amidst the revelry, absorbing the secrets and stories whispered in the shadows. As the night unfolded, Marco emerged as the service specialist, his impeccable manners and attention to detail ensuring the seamless flow of the evening's festivities. With a deft hand, he catered to the whims of the guests, effortless...
