Title of Report: Reflections on Goffman's "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life" and Interactive Assignment

I. Reflection on Interactive Assignment

In completing the interactive assignment, I chose to participate in a community volunteer activity. The main content of this event was to provide companionship and assistance to the elderly in the community. Through interacting with the elderly, I learned a lot about social communication, respect, and patience. I realized that when communicating with the elderly, we need to be more patient and understanding as they may have special needs and habits. At the same time, I also felt the joy and sense of accomplishment of helping others. This interactive assignment profound understanding of Goffman's concept of "performance" in daily life and how to present oneself in social interactions.

II. Thoughts on "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life"

When reading Goffman's book "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life," I focused on chapters five, six, and the conclusion, which mainly discuss communication off-stage, impression management, and how performers maintain the consistency and stability of their performances. I believe that Goffman's theories have a strong insight that reveals the complexity and subtlety behind social interactions. After reading this part, I gained a deeper understanding of social interactions and learned how to better present myself in social situations.

Regarding whether this book is suitable for social science students in the 2020s, I believe the answer is yes. Although the book was first published in 1956, its theories and methodologies still hold significant value. Goffman's work provides deep insights into understanding social interactions and individual behaviors in daily life. Moreover, with the advent of social media and the digital age, people's "performance" and self-presentation online have become more important and complex, and Goffman's theories offer guidance for understanding these phenomena.

In conclusion, I believe "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life" is an excellent book for social science students in the 2020s to read. By reading this book, we can better understand the essence of social interactions and improve our ability to present ourselves in social situations. Additionally, applying the theories from the book to interactive assignments allows us to further experience the charm and value of Goffman's theories in practice.
