W12.(5.24) class answer

 Q. Do You think that different communication mediums evoke  difference responses?

Is seeing something different from hearing or reading about it?

Are you more likely to care about something if you see it compared to just reading about it?

Different types of media will have different reactions. I don't think it's a matter of different responses at all, just different degrees.

Listening and reading stimulate the imagination on different levels. When you're reading, you're only given a description of a situation, so you have to imagine all the elements. But when you listen, you hear the speaker's voice and the immediacy of it. It's as if the situation is happening in front of me.

We can also see this in the means of communication. Non-face-to-face communication includes messengers, calls, and video calls. In a messenger with only visual elements, you can't get the full picture of the person you're communicating with. But in a video call, where both the screen and the voice are transmitted simultaneously, you can get a sense of the other person's emotions or communication status almost as closely as in a face-to-face conversation. We tend to respond more to a medium that combines them and believe it to be more truthful than a medium that communicates through a single sense.

I'm more likely to pay attention to the "visual + auditory" medium than reading in that regard.
