 3/25- interaction assignment -what did you do? What did you learn? Was it fun?

 

I went to festival and saw lot of of singers in the rainy day. I choose one of them, singer A and observed singer A’s interaction with audiences.

 

In here, I learned that Goffman’s theory was applied well in 21th century. The most interesting that I observed is the audience’s idealization. Even they don’t know the encore song, they find the lyrics on the internet and try to sing-along. Audiences just hide the elements which would be inconsistent with ideal version.

 

It was fun for me to analyze celebrity’s performance within the Goffman’s theory. Also, festival usually have a lot version of communications. (intermissions, inducing reactions during performance, preparing on the stage…etc) Unlike class, audiences have to communicate with performer even if class is also a many to one communication like festival.
